What Is ABA?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a therapeutic model that focuses on how people individually learn and behave. It has been used for the past 60 years as the proven treatment for various behavioral challenges, with a special emphasis on Autism.

ABA therapy begins with a complete analysis of the child. This is performed by a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to discover personal strengths and weaknesses. From there, a personalized plan is developed with specific goals in sight. Regular treatment includes small, concrete steps from the simple to the more complex, that seek to provide improvement in communication, social skills, self-care, and academics. By positively reinforcing useful skills and good behavior, the therapy strengthens a child’s function in these areas. Added to that, it’s designed to be fun, promoting the desire to learn. Any behavior that is not wanted, and therefore not reinforced, falls away.

With each session, data is collected on the child’s progress. Progress reports are shared with the family and adjustments can be made towards the plan and goals.

ABA therapy is built on techniques and philosophies that all therapists are trained and certified to teach. It is the only “evidence-based” model shown to help those with autism live happy and productive lives.

Our Approach

First and foremost, we take a personalized approach for your child’s development, whether they’re 1 or 21. It’s important to us that we know your child’s unique patterns, where they can be strengthened, and that we plan a course that supports the way they personally process and think. We do this by properly assessing them in the beginning, then shaping a path that fits their behavior.

We employ comprehensive ABA therapy that ranges from structured lessons to learning that’s more organic. We work with your child in simple tasks like watching, listening, and responding. We also build them up in more complex skills like reading, communicating, and learning to work well with others. If necessary, we may focus on targeting very specific skills, or prioritize areas that need to be addressed first. In every case, your child’s unique individuality is key.

All this, we do in the comfort of your own home where your child can be relaxed and free to learn and grow. And we involve you, too, as the parent, and other family members and caregivers. Your growth supports theirs and provides a consistent, effective environment in which to learn.

Autism is not easy, we understand this fully. But it is rewarding when we see great strides! Your child’s development is what motivates us. We invite you to join us. It is our desire to see change for your child the way their mind naturally blooms and grows.
